Health Effects of Smoking

Every one, even the smoker's know that cigarette smoking is injurious to health and the health effects of smoking are not really pleasant. But very few people know how exactly smoking has can affect health. I am a smoker too, but was unaware of the facts that I am going to mention below.

Health Effects of Smoking
1) Smoking a cigarette and having a mouth fresher. Is this the way you try and get rid of the cigarette smell? well then there is a bad news, you can't really get rid of the smell totally. Because it also sticks to your clothes and you can get rid of it only when you wash your clothes. Also if you are smoking in a car, keep a room freshener to get rid of the smoke from the car. Doesn't it sound too much of work for smoking a cigarette.
2) Do you have yellow colored fingernails, tooth or skin? They can very well be because of cigarette smoking. Some of you might think that it is pleasant color!
3) Have you seen someone coughing all day long and the doctors has refused to diagnose it as a viral infection? Yes then he definitely will be a smoker.
4) Excessive smoke can sometime result in headaches and even migraines.
5) After the excessive smoking session during a party or any other time can make you feel dizzy, make your throat burn like anything.
6) Smoking can also result into hypertension, nausea, bronchitis.
7) People who smoke are not sensitive to smell or taste compared to non-smokers.
8) Feeling of anxiety and that of substance dependency will never go till you quit smoking.
9) Last point in the list but the most important one. Cigarette smoking can cause cancer.

Non Health Effects of Smoking
1) I am a smoker myself! Yes I am trying to quit. But there are so many of my shirts which are my real favorites but due to the holes caused cigarette, I miss wearing them.
2) After all its a hard earned money which one smokes away.
3) Some of my clothes have holes in them. Once I bought a pair of sport shoe and the very first day it had a small little hole on the net because of the burning end of cigarettes which fell on my shoe and stayed there for a while.

Do You Think Your Routine Life Is Healthy.

We will be talking more about what exactly is going wrong in our routine life, off course it will be related to health. I felt the need to write this post after observing my daily routine closely.

Where was Gym in the past?
These days we know the place to do our workout for physical fitness and good health. It's Gym. But this was not the case in the past. There was no Gym but still if we observe our parents or grand parents, they have led a much healthier life than us. Sometime's I wonder how these people might have managed to maintain themselves. Our previous generation are far better than us in terms of physical health and fitness. All their organs are functioning correctly.

Why we need doctors for cold and flu?
When the climate ( season ) changes, it natural for some people to get cold and flu. Do we really need a doctor for it? No we don't. Once our body gets adjusted to the changed weather. But these
days no one is ready to waste there 48 hours. they run to a doctor to get well. No doubt, you should see a doctor if the malfunctioning continues but can't we wait for some time to get adjusted.

What can we do to improve?
There are a lot of things one can do to improve fitness, there is no need to get going to gym. Following are some of the exercises which you can include in your routine to stay fit.
1) Dips, PushUps
2) Squats
3) Skipping
4) Walking
5) Cycling

  • People suffering from PTSD are not able to live a normal life.
  • Some might even turn to alcohol or drugs to get rid of the memories of past.
What are the Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

A person suffering from PTSD shows the following symptoms
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of concentration
  • Depression

Do you personally know anyone who has/is suffering from PTSD. A friend of mine was at

8 Hours of Sleep

Why do I sleep for 8 hours a day?
When I was in school, my language teacher used to tell us, sleep well through 8 hours a night. The reason was unknown then. Now I know why he used to say that. I observed that when I sleep for 8 hours,
  1. I usually feel very much fresh.
  2. I can concentrate on my work more.
  3. I feel energetic through out the day.
  4. No yawning through the day, helps my colleagues as well. Everyone knows that how much you yawn if you see another person yawning.
  5. I feel more confident with 8 hours of sleep.
What are the health benefits of 8 hours of sleep?
Sleeping for 8 hours a day has many health benefits associated. As everyone knows though a person is sleeping, his body doesn't stop working. His heart, kidney and every part of the body doesn't just go to sleep. But by sleeping you rest your body, you actually give a break to your body by not doing any physical activity. Thus the body doesn't have to do any expense for energy levels. Beside these facts about 8 hour sleep following are some important health benefits

  • Cell Healing Process: When one sleeps his/hers body works on repairing the damages cells.
  • Inflammation: 8 hour Sleep can keep the NF-KB protein level low, which otherwise would result in inflammation related disorders.

How much time do you sleep?

My Teeth Cavity Has Grown Deeper

I will post about cavities in the teeth and how it will get bigger and bigger if you don't really pay attention to it in early stages. Last year I went to a renowned dentist DR. Nanda in my city, as my gums had swelled and I was unable to eat. Hell he charges a lot than others, but then again he is the best.

I did an x-ray of my teeth and the Doc. suggested that I better get my teeth cleaned up. He also let me know that there is cavity in my middle teeth and that I have approached him at the right time. I wish If only I would have taken him seriously. Anyways he gave me another appointment after a couple of days to get my teeth cleaned and told me to apply a cream, I don't remember the name of the cream for consecutive 4 days so that the swelling will go down and he can work my teeth to fill the cavity.

I ignored his idea about applying the cream and went directly there to clean the teeth and as you can imagine he was mad at me and told me not come till my swelling gets down. I took him seriously this time and within 2 days my swelling went down and I was lying on the dentist's chair to get my teeth cleaned by one of the doctor's associate.

This was my first time on that chair and the lady just took a moment after my mouth went open to put that weapon in my mouth and let the blood flow like a river in there. I was feeling the taste of blood all over my mouth. It was such a pain. After cleaning them to certain extent she asked me it is not possible to clean all the teeth today and let me give you another appointment.
Another appointment means, more money more pain. When I walked out of the Hospital, I never returned back there.

And now it has been more than a year, my cavity has grown bigger and I think it has started to decay. I feel bad for it and eventually would have to surrender one of the teeth to some external element like cement, silver or gold. I could have avoided all this only if I would have taken the things seriously at the initial stage.

My suggestion to all those guys who love there teeth, please visit your dentist on regular basis, respect their decisions and follow their advice.

Tuna Fish, A Source of Selenium

I mentioned that I was on a break couple of weeks ago and had made somewhat small descriptive post about my holiday in goa here. Well I had a tuna sandwich at a shack( a beach side hotel) for breakfast and I loved it so much that I had to order another one. But it was 14 days after that, when I ran into an article which said that tuna is a rich source of selenium which fights against the advanced prostate cancer. So I wondered how it does it, what can be other sources of selenium and what selenium is basically.

What is selenium?
Selenium is one of those minerals which are needed by our body in small quantity. To be specific 200 micro grams per day is more than enough for a person.

What are benefits of Selenium?
As I described earlier, studies show that adequate selenium intake has lowered the risk of prostate cancer.

What are the Sources of Selenium?
Other than fish, brazil nuts, wheat flour, part skim ricotta cheese, pork and turkey are some of the sources of selenium.

Why you need breaks?

It has been a week, I have returned from my two day holiday in Goa, a land of beaches in India. For me I take regular breaks from my hectic schedule for a number of reasons. The life today is so much stress full, that we unknowingly fall in hands of all work and no play lifestyle. Not only that the jobs are not worthy enough for health, they require your mental ability to the fullest extent. All this is happening but no one notices the need of the body. The need to relax your mind. Everyone's body need some rest, some time out!

I have been to Goa and I am so glad I went there. I was having some stress at work last week with almost 12 hours of work daily. My body was desperately asking for a break. And finally I went there with my cousine sister and here husband. The things that I did there included body massage on the beach. I have never known the power of massage as I had never done it before. I experienced how relaxed your body feels after the massage. I am planning to visit some more massage parlours in pune.

Other than this, it was warming experience when I think of food. I had a lot of it. Kingfish, prawns, fish curry rice, tunna toasted sandwitch, scrambled egg . Wow... here is some sneak peak into those things. I was not able to stop myself from eating all the fish. There was no time when I ate something and it was not fish. Goa is good for fish. You can't deny after seeing this somewhat badly composed pic.

Teenage Hair Loss

Male Pattern Thinning considered as the cause of hair loss in teenagers is the process of hair follicles shrinking day by day , which further reduces the hair on the top of the head to get a U shaped formation on the head.

The time when hair loss starts is generally late teens and early 20s. The boys and girls who are affected by this MPT are all set to grow bald by the age of 30. Thus the saying goes “If you have a head full of hair at the age of 30. You will have it for the rest of life.”

We have already discussed hair loss due to anaemia here. Here is some more insight into the reason of hair loss.

Causes of hair loss in teenage girls:

1)Stress.
2)Taking steroids.
3)Smoking.
4)There is a 50% chance that if a father has got Male Thinning Pattern genes, the son is going to get bald. That does not mean, if both the parents have head full of hear then the son won’t get it. It goes like the mother can still possess the genes, which she might have inherited from her mother or father.

How to prevent hair loss

Hair loss prevention will involve a person in interfering with the inherited genes. There are certain male hormones which influence the genes leading to hair loss . The other way to prevent hair loss is, prevent those from doing so.

Other tips to prevent hair loss

* Eight hours of sleep.
* Proper diet.
* Relaxation of mind.

Health Benefits of Black Tea

We all drink tea but we drink it as if we are addicted? Is it really an addiction or is it healthier for our body? Well there are a lot of advantages or health benefits of drinking black tea. All the following health benefits are inherited from various articles and are based on study of pro advice.

Health Benefits of Black Tea
1) Almost everyone thinks of tea when they first wake up in the morning. This is because black tea has rejuvenating and stimulating effect.
2) Lessens the risk of heart attack.
3) A study showed 20 % increase in cortisol ( Body's stress fighting hormone).

Effects of Milk on Tea:
It is found in India and some other countries that milk is added to the tea. Though milk has it's own health benefits, it spoils or nullifies the health benefits of black tea. The proper way to prepare tea is to boil the tea first and if someone wants milk with it can pour it externally.
However nutritionist's suggest that plain black tea without adding milk to it is good for health.

It has been found that relaxing effect of the black tea was completely vanished when milk was added to it.

Bottom line: Have a black tea without milk.

No Red Meat

Why is Red Meat a big No these days. Well readon to get all your answers.

According to a study conducted, continous intake of red meat makes a human body more susceptible to a virulent bug in intestines. This bug may cause diarrhhoea or even death. To be specific Escherichia coli is the name of th bug. So why not follow the no red meat diet and protect your body.

One of the study also suggests that red meat eating will allow the toxins into your blood stream, as it hampers the lining of the cells of intestines and blood vessels and provide a easy environment for the toxins to delve in. So are you still in for the Red Meat or are you going to say a Bye Or a strict no to red meat?

Health Benefits of Green Tea

So tea as in my previous post here has its own advantages. Today we will concentrate on Green tea which has its own health benefits. Before we go into health benefits of green tea, let me run you through some of the ill effects of green tea and then we can discuss if they are worth ignoring the positive effects of green tea on health.

Less Amount of Caffeine and Tannin : Tea has a couple of harmful ingredients caffeine which is considered to be a addictive drug and Tannin which is considered as a risk for oesophagal and nasal cancer. Now when it comes to green tea. Green tea actually reduces the quantity of caffeine as well as tannin present in it. In comparison to a normal tea, green tea has 50% less amount of caffeine and tannin. To be specific and statistical, every 150 ml of green tea will have just12 to 60 mg of caffeine and tannin. Green tea helps in bringing down cholesterol levels and maintain desired ratio between good cholesterol and bad cholesterol levels.

Green tea is also a very good source of quercetin which helps body in boosting the immune system and fighting against flu, Alzheimer's, pancreatic cancer and other cardiovascular diseases.

Physical Activity Reduce Calorie

Are you people willing to burn your calorie. Then there are certain tips one can always follow to reduce the calorie and getting active.

Tip 1. Don't just walk get running. Hop, skip, jog. There are so many ways you can get active. Half an hour of any of the above form of activity is sufficient to keep one fit. My schedule is jogging for 20 minutes twice a week.

Tip 2. Our household activities need water. e.g. In a week atleast twice, I try and take atleast 50 buckets of water to fill the water tank on the second floor from the Ground Floor water tank. On second floor which is an open terrace, I have tied three ropes so that I always have to pass from below then with the bucket. This way I exert my stomach and abs as well.

Tip 3 : Any form of physical activity is sufficient to burn calories, not necessarily it has to be jogging. There are so many things, start cleaning your floor, wash your car, take out your gardening tools and start shaping your lawns and still there are so many things like washing your clothes, cleaning utensils... No I am not joking.

Diabetes Mellitus - Basics you need to know regarding Diabetes

Diabetes is a common disease nowadays. It has the medical name of Diabetes Mellitus. It is a disorder which involves the pancreas specially the beta cells situated in the islets of Langerhans. It has two types or two major groups. Type I (IDDM) Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is the most common childhood disease. Thus it is called as Juvenile Diabetes. The other type is Type II (NIDDM) Non- insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus.

The primary problem with these disorders is by the act that the body cannot regulate further the blood sugar of the body. In controlling type I diabetes you need the continuous shots of insulin due to the damaged beta cells of the body. Thus, body cannot secret insulin. For Type II, diet modification and a healthier lifestyle is a key to get rid of diabetes.

The Type II Diabetes has the following triad to know whether a person is diabetic. Poylphagia – is excessive hunger, polydipsia is excessive thirst and polyuria frequent urination. Diabetes in general is a serious disease and has very fatal complications. This might involve the heart, the kidneys, eyes and the blood vessels as well as the heart. Goji Juice and Other Powerful Superfoods

While indeed some of the aptly named "superfoods" like alfalfa sprouts, asparagus, ginger, spirulina, almonds, hazelnuts and many leafy green vegetables have been fairly successfull at making the news and are therefore well known by many observent people, there also happen to be a few other key superfoods which are likewise very important. Some of these may assist in reducing bad cholesterol levels, reducing the possibility for heart disease & stroke, limititing high blood pressure and even improving one's overall mental state. One superfood in particular that you may be glad to hear about is ever-popular chocolate. Made from the cacao bean, it is really chock full of antioxidant power and can even lower blood pressure in some specific instances. It is important that you search for for chocolate that has at least a 60% cocoa content. Broadly speaking, the darker the better. You may have noticed a pattern of the darker colored foods such blueberries being particularly rich in the free radical destroying antioxidants. On top of all that, the darker the chocolate is, the lower the fat and sugar ratio is. Salmon, and especially wild salmon is another superlative superfood which has many amino acids and other nutrients.

But the apsect of salmon that sets it apart from many other nutricious foods is it's fatty acids. Salmon, like some other fish but better than most, is extremely high in the long chain omega-3 fatty acids known as dha and epa. Studies in greenland during the 70's showed that native greenlanders had a remarkably low incidence of various forms of hear disease despite a diet that was quite high in fat. The researchers attributed this low incidence to a diet which was rich in marine oils. Additional, Icelanders were rated as having the longest life span of any people on earth in the latest recorded statistics. Iceland is famous for having a diet that is very high in fish. Another superlative superfood happens to be the modest little red goji berry, from which goji juice is actually made from in general.

Goji juice may actually be the best possible option for getting the most benefit from this unique food item, since it is wholly active with a high concentration of essential polysaccharides, which are basically the "master molecules" your system requires to rejuvenate each day for optimal health. In addition, these particular polysaccharides are only found in goji You can find all the relevant information about goji juice at goji juice and they have a movie on this juice, telling about all the wellness benefits. You don’t need to search for Goji juice in the market, it is online available for you at Goji-planet.com.

Tea After A Meal

We will take care of what is the effect of drinking a cup of tea after a meal. Does a cup of tea after meal benefits us or affects us. Many people have the habit of having a cup of tea after a meal.
However I received an email not to do so, because tea leaves contain a acid in high quantity. The acids hardens the proteins contained in the food, which eventually makes it difficult for digestion. So I thought to give it a closer look and I ran into an article on hystersisters.com which adds te following benefits to drinking tea after or with meal.
  1. A study has shown that black tea taken with heavy meals help to reduce the heart attack by increasing the antioxidant levels and blood flow.
  2. It was found to prevent spinal fractures in women with Osteoporosis.
  3. The tea contains some environmental substances depending on the region where it is grown such as fluoride and aluminum, which can be beneficial and vice versa as well.

Last friday he consulted a doctor for chest pain and did the ECG work. Doctor advised him to get admitted but this hero left the hospital for home. The next day which was saturday he experienced severe chest pain but again ignored it as he had done the ECG later that day he also started to getting it harder to breathe and this was the time when everyone rushed him to the hospital. The doctor said he has suffered severe heart attack. There is diabetese in his medical history and yeah these people are more suspected to diseases.

Causes of Diabetes

Almost everyone from my family is suffering from diabetes except me. Yesterday while talking, a person told me he love sweet so much that he has been eating so much sweet right from his childhood but has managed to keep away from diabetes. When I argued about physical work being a contribution factor in his good health, the person responded that he had never worked on physical level. I was surprised to hear this and started hunting the real caused of Diabetes.

Causes of Diabetes

There is no such thing which can be reasoned to cause diabetes. Scientists are still hunting for the causes. However there has been certain observations when it comes to diabetes

a) Inheritance : People who have a family history of diabetics are 25% more prone to being diabetic.
b) Diet : Diet plays a major role in diabetes. One should never take nutrients like carbohydrates, fats and proteins in excess as they hamper the secretion of insulin, the hormone which maintains the blood sugar level.
c) Obesity : Excess fats in a person's body deprecates the functionality of Insulin to allow the sugar in the blood to enter the muscles and tissues of the body. This can lead to diabetes.
d) Virus : Cocksakie B Virus affects the pancreases, indirectly affecting the insulin levels and thus increasing the blood sugar levels.
e) Age : Age can be a factor because a person according to the age grows less active and grows overweight.

Other factors leading to diabetes are stress, grief, anxiety, worry, death etc.
